Kingdom Melodies - Can they influence people's moods?

i've recently begun to observe the mood-altering abilities of kingdom melodies, when played at meetings and assemblies.

after hyping up the audience for hours at a convention, a melody like, "we thank you jehovah" has the ability to make everyone all fuzzy and happy.

some even have tears in their eyes.. before a meeting, a kingdom melody is usually played quietly in the background, but it sets the mood.

Yes, they do inspire a mood. Some are sappy. The kingdom melodies version of some are downright pleasant and do inspire a good mood. I listen to them very seldom but don't feel guilty for the good mood they provide. I dont focus on the lyrics, just the good mood.

An example of how a mood is apparent was at the funeral of a sister who wanted "Life Without End at Last" sung. Everyone tried but the tears were too oppressive. That song, so hopeful in its content, was turned into a farce and I could never listen to it with hope again. It was her funeral dirge and I thought of her with pain. Ruined it for me all the time I was in the bOrg.

I need some help. How do you deal with your JW family

my whole family is in the troof.

i am at a point were i want to present them a book on cults.

i have nothing to lose as they have dis-owned me for years and have only recently came back into my life as a result of my moms illness ( alzeimers ) these people are driving me nuts!!!

I assume you are DF'd. When my mother was dying my DF'd brother was welcomed into the ranks of the family. It wasn't that he needed to be there to take care of her also, it was because she was on a slow but defiinite track to death due to a failing heart. It took six months for her to die. Even the strongest proponents ot DF'ing were there when he was and treated him no different than others even hugging him genuinely as you would any fellow family member experiencing grief. There was never mention of the Truth nor anything biblical to him. Yes, they have gone back to the usual adherence but learned something in the experience. He isn't the devil they thought, just a guy who was married to an evil, violent, wicked bitch who was a thief and is still in good standing with the congregation. I was very proud of those who treated him with understanding and kindness, its the way it should be. This is probably a testimony to how close and loving our family is to begin with. Also respect for my mom who was so special to us all.

If the problem is that your family is preaching at you, then just tell them that you appreciate the fact that they are not excluding you from showing your Mother due love and care, but please, follow your own rules and stop the spiritual association and dont mention Jehovah or anything to do with spiritual matters. THAT'S THE RULES ANYWAY. That way you can do your part without experiencing all the antagonism.

Maybe that will help shut thier traps.

A Good Escape Plan.

i'm planning on moving out from my jw parents house in about 7 months.

i'm trying to start a job and i already have a little money going into it (bout 2500 dollars little) however, mainly i just wanted to really know if this was the best course of action.

my parents are the usual jw's but i do love them, however, the pressure is just building up from all their jw reasoning and pressure and guilt trips and all that mess.

As was said, the best thing you can give your parents is a clean, happy and productive life of your own. Remember that thier mindset will NEVER GIVE UP HOPE you will become a "Brother". So, don't think it will ever go away. Remember, its not over till the fat angel sings. So, focus instead on your personal goals. School is good. Staying well and balanced is very good in the short and long run. Don't let people take advantage of your giving nature. Enjoy!

Thinking outside of what is allowed

i just wanted to share a little of my story perhaps to gain insight into myself, and perhaps just to share with like minded people.

I'm sure your Grandmother is holding to the party line because she thinks its in your interest, sounds like a hardliner. I'm sure that the bond you say exists will kick in and she will eventually ease up. I hope so anyway. Glad you found a significant other to share your life with. One who doesn't own a "Bookbag".

Am I a Sucker?

the other day, my wife ran into a girl who she used to babysit for and is now 19 years old.

i remember when this girl used to come to our house, she was always such a little sweetheart.

she always kind of reminded me of a little doll, just tossed in the corner and forgotten.

I guess the biggest fear I have is that we are somehow being conned. We really feel sorry for this girl, and we know she's different. I can't knowingly let her live out in the street. The least I can do is help her get on her feet a little.

For what its worth:

Yes I agree it is loving to care for others and bravo for your willingness to do so. Please listen to your suspicions as well. I have known individuals accused of rape by people they decided to help. We're they guilty? Let's just say that once the accuasation is made it doesn't matter. You are guilty. No one can take the chance that you are innocent. If you were innocent I'd have a hard time believing you. So, keep your antenna up. Never be alone with her. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. Better to fault on the side of caution.

I dont say this from the JW standpoint of "you cant trust yourself" its more from the vantage point of "you don't really know this girl." I have family members in law enforcement and they repeatedly advise, DONT BE ALONE WITH A STRANGER NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO HELP THEM. I say find her another place that is designed to help people in her situation, subsidized housing or some home with only women in it. Sorry to seem like a jerk to some but I've seen kind people CONNED, not always witnesses either, compromised by thier generosity. Everyone is right, lock the doors she doesn't need access to. The best advice so far? Set deadlines and goals to be met by her by certain dates, i.e. a job in a week even if its fast food work. Gotta start somewhere.

A sister spoke to me at breakfast...

i was eating a sinful double order of biscuits/gravy when this sister i knew came up to my table.

as is usual with witness mentality, not a single word about the family or any other matter, just launched into "hubby and i were out by your house in service, stopped by but no one was home" then she tactlessly mentioned that she had not seen us around the hall for a while.

i told her we were not attending meetings any longer.

Nice speshafects s'bout all. Reeves isn't exactly an actor of any ability so I didn't expect much. I'm a sucker for the winged ladies though!

It fit the graphic novel profile. Kinda like Sin City. They are better books than movies.

What to do??

think about this for a moment.. jws believe that their relentless work now will be rewarded with paradise later.. however, in an effort to get into paradise, many jws do nothing but work, and serve god.

i know my mother does.. so i wonder, what does she think she's going to do in paradise?

what is there that she likes, that will occupy her eternally??.
